This is the ultimate prom decision.
You might be able to breeze through the other choices out there – should we get a limo? Who should we invite to our prom group? Who should be my date? Etc., etc., etc. – but this choice is crucial because it sets up everything about your prom ensemble.
The biggest question of the prom: What color should my dress be?
People tend to underestimate prom dress color, but they really shouldn’t. While a lot of people believe that it’s all about the style and cut, the reality is, the color is going to make a huge difference in the way your dress looks, how you feel, and how your entire night can go.
So, we decided to help out as best as we could by setting up a few factors you should consider when picking out your dress. Above all, though, we recommend checking out JJ’s House for all of your prom dress needs – they have every style, every color, every cut, and every design out there. You’ll have the largest variety of prom dresses including plus size prom dresses available to you for your choice!
Before you do that, though, let’s talk about prom dress color considerations.
Your Skin Tone
You know how some people look absolutely amazing in yellow but other people simply just can’t pull it off? This all has to do with skin tone. Determining your skin tone and dressing for it are going to be huge factors when it comes down to picking a color that’s going to look absolutely amazing on you. Check out your surface tones and your undertones, figure out what pigments will complement you, and start to narrow down your search from there.
The Theme of the Prom
You’ll want to take the theme of the prom into consideration, too! If you have an “enchanted fairy tale woods” theme prom, then you’re likely not going to want to pick out that neon orange prom dress like you would if you had a “rave” theme prom. While you’re not tied to the prom theme, often, choosing a color that makes sense for the theme can result in a better dress choice. Don’t feel like you absolutely have to be in theme but give it a consideration before you buy your dress!
The Season
As always, season is a big factor in considering dress color. If you’re attending an autumn or a winter prom, then spring or summer colors or floral patterns might not make the most sense for your prom dress choice. Try to stay true to season, check out some articles online about seasonal color trends, and make sure you’re not going too far in one direction for color if you’re in the wrong season.
Your Preferences
Above all, you need to make sure you’re wearing a dress with a color that you like. If blue looks totally great on you, matches the theme, and fits in with the season, but you totally hate blue, then guess what – don’t wear blue! You need to find a dress color that you know you’ll feel confident and beautiful in – if it happens to match your theme or the season, that’s great! But don’t tie your entire dress choice around what you think you should like if you truly have your heart set on another color!
